Defective Highways, Roads and Bridges

Many times an automobile or truck accident is caused or partially caused by a defective road or highway. We all know that many of the roads in Louisiana are in disrepair. We ride on them every day.

There are national and local safety standards that apply to our roads and highways. When a highway is not built or maintained to proper standards, the public entity responsible for that road may be held responsible if a road defect caused or contributed to an accident.

Oftentimes, the defect in the roadway makes automobile and trucking accidents more likely and more severe.

Types of defects we have litigated are as follows:

  • Improper construction of highway
  • Improper safety barriers
  • Unposted speed limit signs
  • Highway construction accidents
  • Unsafe drop-offs
  • Improper construction site warnings
  • Malfunctioning traffic lights
  • Improper signing
  • Improper lighting
  • Unsafe highway curves
  • Improper speed limit signs
  • Improper warning of construction ahead
  • Construction debris on roadway
  • Improper drainage
These roadway defects have resulted in severe injuries including burn injuries, brain injuries, quadriplegia and even death. See Wrongful Death.
